In 1925, to mark the centenary, a celebration of railways featuring locomotives from the past century was put on by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER). Opened by the Duke and Duchess of York – later King Geroge VI and Queen Elizabeth – a procession of locomotives took place over some six miles of line between Stockton and Darlington, passing the royal grandstand and delighting the hundreds of thousands of onlookers who turned out to witness the celebrations.

The parade of 53 locomotives intended to showcase the evolution of the steam locomotive, from the early examples to modern designs and included LNER K3 No. 203 which was one of the youngest locos on show, having been outshopped by the LNER’s Darlington Works earlier that year. No. 203 was renumbered to 1860 under the LNER’s 1946 renumbering programme, becoming 61860 upon Nationalisation when it entered the British Railways fleet. The locomotive enjoyed a career spanning more than 35 years before it was withdrawn in 1961 and subsequently scrapped.

The Bachmann Branchline model of Gresley’s 2-6-0 mogul employs a diecast running plate and locomotive chassis to provide an impressive weight, ensuring that the model’s strength and versatility is true to prototype. Meanwhile, those components produced in plastic are precision moulded, with details such as rivets and boiler bands crisply reproduced. Separate parts are then added to enhance the authenticity of the model further, from the metal handrails and lamp irons to the safety valves and sprung buffers, each of which are turned brass. Within the cab, controls, dials and pipework are all moulded authentically and decorated accordingly. Multiple parts are added to the locomotive’s chassis, with brake blocks and brake rigging, footsteps and metal wire sandpipes all fitted separately.

Moving to the tender and the locomotive to tender drawbar is adjustable to suit different layout conditions whilst the tender itself is finely moulded, with several separately applied details including the lamp irons, handrails, handwheels and sprung metal buffers. A realistic coal load is included, with the empty coal space modelled below, whilst the tender chassis includes brake rigging and the water scoop.

The livery application is what really brings this new K3 to life, with a rich application of black paintwork augmented by the lining which is applied with pinpoint precision. His predecessor, Henry Ivatt, had already implemented the GNR's letter 'H' classification system for the 20 engines described as Class H1 purchased from the Baldwin Company, USA. The letter 'H' indicated a 2-6-0 locomotive. Gresley's pioneer class of 1912 was in essence an Ivatt 0-6-0 with pony truck and outside cylinders; this received the designation Class H2. A few years later, a development of this class with a larger boiler became Class H3. All were two cylinder locomotives.

Subsequently, 1920 saw the introduction of a version with an even larger boiler and three cylinders described as Class H4. After the Grouping they became reclassified K1, K2 and K3 by the LNER in order of their introduction. Altogether, 183 Class K3 locomotives were constructed between 1924 and 1937 at a variety of workshops in compliance with LNER standards, in addition to the ten GNR versions outshopped in 1920.

The emergence of Gresley's Class V2 2-6-2 locomotives in 1936 saw the end of K3 construction. The 193-strong fleet was used all over the former LNER system and the first K3 was withdrawn in February 1958. Churchward, the Great Western Railway (GWR) 45XX Class Small Prairie Tank Locomotives were built, with construction beginning in 1906 and by 1915, four batches totalling 55 locomotives had been completed. Following Grouping in 1923, Charles Collett ordered the construction of twenty more, before modifying the design to produce the 4575 Class. The two types were essentially the same, but with the 4575s boasting a higher water carrying capacity, facilitated by larger side tanks which made it easy to tell the two types apart – the 4575s having slope sided tank tops whereas the 45XX’s tanks had straight tops. One hundred 4575s emerged from Swindon Works between 1927 and 1929 and like their sister locomotives, they were put to work on mixed traffic duties, predominantly on branch lines.

The entire fleet was inherited by British Railways upon Nationalisation in 1948, but eight years later withdrawals being, the closure of branch lines and the introduction of diesel multiple units signalling their demise. By 1964 the entire Class had gone, but the Class is strongly represented today as eleven examples survived the cutters torch and are now preserved at various sites across the UK.

Please note :

The price shown is the price you pay at checkout

Colours may look slightly different than sample picture illustration

All stock levels are approx

No items will be sent or readied for collection until a payment is completed

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0883/8230/8688/files/C598224C-7094-42A7-8C58-BC8D51493951.jpg?v=1781124090
bachmann-branchline-32-231b-lms-fowler-3f-jinty-47406-br-black-early-emblem
Bachmann Branchline 32-231B LMS Fowler 3F (Jinty) 47406 BR Black (Early Emblem)

Bachmann Branchline 32-231B LMS Fowler 3F (Jinty) 47406 BR Black (Early Emblem)

Brand - bachmann

scale - 00

The ‘Jinty’ is a timeless classic and we are delighted to welcome this LMS workhorse back to the Bachmann Branchline OO scale range with this model of preserved locomotive No. 47406 in BR Black with Early Emblem. The final examples were withdrawn in 1967, however nine have been preserved.

Please note :

The price shown is the price you pay at checkout

Colours may look slightly different than sample picture illustration

All stock levels are approx

No items will be sent or readied for collection until a payment is completed

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0883/8230/8688/files/32250CE3-AB50-4940-895B-969F2F87C12F.jpg?v=1781214355
toby-the-tram-engine-with-moving-eyes
Thomas and friends Toby the Tram Engine with Moving Eyes

Bachmann THOMAS THE TANK RANGE Toby the Tram Engine with Moving Eyes

Brand - Bachmann

Colour - brown

qty - 1ct

scale - 00

Please note :

The price shown is the price you pay at checkout

Colours may look slightly different than sample picture illustration

All stock levels are approx

No items will be sent or readied for collection until a payment is completed

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0883/8230/8688/files/F9BEB5F7-5CD9-4CFC-AC0F-FB09279E2ABF.jpg?v=1784501036
bachmann-branchline-31-214a-lms-5xp-patriot-45524-blackpool-br-lined-green-early-emblem
Bachmann Branchline 31-214A LMS 5XP 'Patriot' 45524 'Blackpool' BR Lined Green (Early Emblem)

31-214A LMS 5XP 'Patriot' 45524 'Blackpool' BR Lined Green (Early Emblem)

Brand - bachmann

scale - 00

Add some LMS express power to your locomotive line up with the Bachmann Branchline LMS Patriot. The high level of decoration is not reserved only for the cab interior of course, and the model boasts an authentic rendition of the BR Lined Green livery complete with full-colour early emblems. The beautifully crafted livery application is finished with precision printed details like the running number, shed code and builders plaques, whilst etched nameplates are supplied for user-fitting to complete the look of this express locomotive.

With a powerful three pole motor and a proven drive train, the Branchline Patriot is a surefooted machine that boasts electrical pickups from the driving wheels and tender wheels. The first two of the 52-strong fleet of Patriots were created in 1930 by notionally rebuilding two LNWR Claughtons; the new locomotives retained the original driving wheels and bogie trucks along with some other parts and for four years they kept the Claughton numbers before being renumbered in 1934.

The other 50 locomotives were essentially built from new, albeit for accounting purposes 40 were classified as rebuilds, and construction was shared between the LMS’s Crewe Works who made the majority, and Derby Works which completed just ten examples.

Commonly known as ‘Baby Scots’ owing to their similarities to the ‘Royal Scot’ locomotives albeit with a smaller boiler, the Patriots saw widespread operation across the principal routes of the LMS and later, BR’s Midland Region. The class gained its name in 1937 when No. 5500 was named ‘Patriot’ as a successor to the original LNWR Claughton remembrance locomotive of the same name. Other members of the class were given names of regiments or had military connections, whilst some were named after holiday destinations served by the LMS.

Whilst the Patriots were considered good performers from their introduction, between 1946 and 1949 eighteen were rebuilt with new tapered boilers, a new cab and new tenders, all to the design of William Stanier. A similar rebuilding programme had earlier been initiated for the Royal Scots to which the Patriots bore so many similarities. Those 34 locomotives that were not rebuilt survived into British Railways ownership, still employed on express passenger services although as the onset of dieselisation began, some were displaced to mixed traffic duties.

The entire fleet was still working at the start of 1960 however a pair succumbed later that year. Eight more were taken out of traffic in 1961, and the type had gone completely by the end of 1962. None of the Patriots, nor any of the rebuilds, survived to preservation, however The LMS Patriot Project commenced in 2008 with the aim to build a replica of No. 5551 and name it ‘The Unknown Warrior’ to create a new national memorial engine. Good progress is being made towards the completion of this new-build replica.

Please note :

The price shown is the price you pay at checkout

Colours may look slightly different than sample picture illustration

All stock levels are approx

No items will be sent or readied for collection until a payment is completed

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0883/8230/8688/files/299D5AFB-CC7B-4FE8-8DA1-C0C74F137FBF.jpg?v=1784501866
bachmann-branchline-gwr-8750-pannier-tank-9600-br-lined-black-early-emblem
Bachmann Branchline GWR 8750 Pannier Tank 9600 BR Lined Black (Early Emblem)

GWR 8750 Pannier Tank 9600 BR Lined Black (Early Emblem)

br black

Brand - bachmann

scale - 00

The ‘Pannier Tank’ is undoubtedly one of the most iconic tank locomotives to have operated in Great Britain, with the real locomotives being built by the Great Western Railway (GWR) over a period of more than fifty years and to evolving designs. The 57XX was first introduced in 1929 and construction continued for 21 years until the final examples were outshopped by British Railways. Such was the success of the design that it became the GWR’s standard shunting and general purpose tank engine, used for shunting, light goods traffic and even passenger workings on branch lines and suburban routes.

The first three hundred locomotives to be built were classified as 57XXs (or 67XXs depending on their braking systems) but from 1933 a new, larger cab was introduced which incorporated square windows instead of round, and provided more enclosed side sheets for better crew comfort. Locomotives built from 1933 with this new cab were designated Class 8750s and when the 863rd and final Pannier Tank belonging to the 57XX family rolled off the production line, the Class 8750s made up the majority of the fleet.

Employed across the GWR network and then the Western Region following Nationalisation, all 863 locomotives passed into British Railways ownership before the first 8750 was withdrawn in 1957. The type would remain in service for another decade, with withdrawals accelerating at the start of the 1960s before British Railways withdrew the final examples in 1966. Even then, some of these Pannier Tanks were still in use with London Transport (LT) and other private operators who had purchased them from BR; the LT Panniers surviving in traffic until 1971. Ultimately, sixteen Pannier Tanks from the 57XX family survive today in preservation, half of which are genuine 57XXs whilst the other half are Class 8750s.

Please note :

The price shown is the price you pay at checkout

Colours may look slightly different than sample picture illustration

All stock levels are approx

No items will be sent or readied for collection until a payment is completed

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0883/8230/8688/files/A7D45328-DB57-44F8-8180-E444F8B60453.jpg?v=1784574724
thomas-and-friends-percy-the-small-engine-with-moving-eyes
Thomas and friends Percy the Small Engine with Moving Eyes

Bachmann THOMAS THE TANK RANGE Percy the Small Engine with Moving Eyes

Brand - Bachmann

Colour - green

qty - 1ct

scale - 00

Please note :

The price shown is the price you pay at checkout

Colours may look slightly different than sample picture illustration

All stock levels are approx

No items will be sent or readied for collection until a payment is completed

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0883/8230/8688/files/8470A907-C136-4D54-A281-D04D824ABAC9.jpg?v=1784574842
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0883/8230/8688/collections/FullSizeRender_d27d9984-16c6-4c57-a090-c8a9e92772c3.jpg?v=1761431148
